MEN’S GAELIC FOOTBALL

OUR FOOTBALL TEAM

Ranelagh Gaels Men’s Football has experienced remarkable growth and success in recent seasons. The club currently fields two adult men’s teams, with plans underway to introduce a third to meet the increasing demand from new members and underage players progressing from minor level into adult football.

Our first team continues to go from strength to strength, earning back-to-back league promotions and securing a place in AFL Division 5 for 2026. The team also reached the Junior 1 Club Football Championship Final in 2024 and now competes in the Dublin Intermediate Club Championship.

Our second team, established in 2024, has already enjoyed rapid progress. After a successful debut season, they achieved promotion and will compete in AFL Division 10 in 2026, while also contesting the Junior 6 Championship.
In addition, we run social and international GAA sessions every Saturday morning in Rathmines, designed for those new to Gaelic football. These sessions are open to all and provide a welcoming environment to learn the game.

Training takes place year-round across several venues, with our main bases at Cathal Brugha Barracks (Rathmines), UCD Belfield and Bushy Park. We are always keen to welcome new players, whether you are looking to play competitively, socially, or simply get involved with the club. “…I grew up locally and have been involved with Ranelagh Gaels for many years, from managing the women’s team to setting up our first-ever Cúl Camp for kids back in 2015. I then transferred from another club in Dublin in 2019 as there was no Ranelagh Gaels when I was in school. Since becoming manager of the men’s team in 2024, we’ve enjoyed back-to-back promotions, reached a Junior 1 Championship final which led to promotion to Intermediate championship, and are now preparing for AFL5 in 2026. What makes this team special is the mix of lads from across the country alongside younger players coming through. We take our football seriously, but always respect the different commitments players have. There’s a unique bond here and we’re always ready to welcome new faces.” ….”

“…I joined Ranelagh Gaels ten years ago after transferring from my home club in Cork. From the very start I felt at home. The welcome I received was fantastic. I’ve played across many levels with the Gaels, from when we were stuck in Division 8 right through to today’s Intermediate Championship having previously played Junior 1 and 2 with the club. With the brilliant management team we have now, I genuinely believe the future of the club is brighter than ever….”

“…fter returning from Australia in 2024, I was looking for a real sense of community and I found it at Ranelagh Gaels. The training is top-class, but it’s the friendships and camaraderie off the pitch that make the club special. From regular nights out to overseas trips playing Barcelona Gaels and Valencia Gaels, the social side is amazing. I’ve already made lifelong friends here, and we’re always excited to welcome new members into the group…”

“…We launched our second team in 2024 to meet the demand from new players and minors moving up, and it’s been an incredible journey. The squad is a real mix – from former high-level players to absolute beginners – and like the first team, we’ve already secured promotion. Whether you’re returning to football after a break or just starting out, Ranelagh Gaels has a place for everyone….”
