Coaching & Games

Ranelagh Gaels have the full-time services of a Games Promotion Officer (GPO). This is an agreement we have in place with the Dublin County Board. We began this back in 2015 on a part time basis & gradually have progressed to it to a full time role within the club since 2017. The role of our GPO is to head up the coaching & games of our club & implement strategies at all grades from our Academy 4+ right up to our eldest teams.
Our GPO is responsible for overseeing the development of the Juvenile Section, working closely with lead mentors & relaying there on going work back to the Juvenile Committee. Another part of the GPOs role is to work closely with our local schools. The link between our club & schools is key to the future success of the club. The GPO will work with the local schools throughout the calendar year providing a free of charge service to each class for a 6 week minimum block. Currently we are working with 6 schools between Donnybrook & Rathgar, & hope to add to this in the near future.

The PETT Player

The PETT Player is a model for coaches to follow to ensure they are maximising the potential of each player. This is a simple guide to check we know our players & how they developing. There are four areas we should look at continually to check do we really understand our player(s). Physically, Emotionally, Tactically & Technically.

For this to work, mentors are encouraged to take a group of players each & analyse the players under these four headings. The model should be looked at twice a year; start, middle or end & reviewed & feedback provided.

Have a look at the in-depth model below.

Ranelagh Gaels Player Pathway

Our Player Pathway was launched in 2018. This was a momentous occasion for our club as it was our first platform for our coaches & parents to develop the players on an going basis. The pathway is a guide for our coaches to identify the stages of development our players will go through at various times in their GAA career. It’s an important tool enabling coaches assist their players & reach certain milestones as they progress. The pathway works both ways – for the coach to see where the team should be in terms of development & for the players in terms of what they should be striving to achieve. The pathway should be shown to our players yearly so they can visually see what they need to work on over a period of time
